Finding Clarity in the Fog: A Spiritual Awakening in the Present Moment

This morning, I woke up without the usual fear and anxiety gripping me, but I didn’t notice it right away. It wasn’t until I was driving my kids to school that I became aware of a thick fog surrounding us. As I merged onto the interstate, the dense mist became more than just weather—it became a spiritual metaphor for life.

It was as if the Divine was speaking directly to me:

“This is where you are. Where you all are. In the fog. You can’t see clearly. You must slow down. Be present. Notice those around you. Notice that although you know that there are buildings and bridges surrounding you, you can no longer see them. You can’t see more than 2 seconds ahead of you. So be here now. What do you notice? What’s most important? What do you have control over? What’s the next right thing? These are the only concerns you need to put your energy into right now. That is where your power is… in this present moment. Everything else is outside of your control and I have removed anything that distracts you from the wisdom waiting for you in this present moment.”

The Power of Mindfulness and Presence

This realization struck me like a bolt of lightning. Instantly, I understood that, by blocking my view of the distant future, the fog was actually keeping me in my power.

I knew that even if challenges or obstacles lay ahead, they weren’t in my present moment. Staying grounded in the now meant staying empowered and safe. And if difficulties did arise, I would know exactly how to handle them because I would be connected—to my heart, to my intuition, and to the Divine.

Releasing Fear and Embracing the Unknown

A deep peace washed over me. I no longer felt anxious about how things would unfold. The fear of the unknown, which had once held me captive, was suddenly gone.

As I made my way through traffic and dropped off the kids, I felt an overwhelming sense of trust in the universe. Then, at a red light, I noticed something powerful—the sun was breaking through the fog behind me.

I could feel its warmth, like a divine presence supporting me. The light was pushing through the mist, illuminating my path forward. It was a reminder: even in times of uncertainty, the light is always there.

Stepping Into My True Self

Nothing in the external world had changed. If anything, things seemed more uncertain than ever. And yet, I felt stronger, freer, and more courageous.

I could feel old fears dissolving—the fear of being seen, the fear of judgment, the fear of speaking my truth. The self-imposed chains that had held me back for so long were gone. I was no longer hiding.

If not now, when? If not me, who?

I was born to be fully myself—loving, brave, and compassionate. I was born to stand up for what’s right, to protect, and to advocate for those who cannot do so themselves. Like Viktor Frankl, I believe the meaning of my life is to help others find meaning in theirs.

Embracing Spiritual Growth and Inner Transformation

The Divine has perfect timing. Every hardship I’ve endured, every painful experience, has broken my heart open—so that I can see others in pain and meet them with empathy and courage.

I no longer have time to fight battles with those who refuse to see. That struggle only kept me trapped in my own anger and resentment. Now, I turn my focus to those who are seeking healing, connection, and transformation.

We are stronger together.

Governments, systems, and institutions may try to control how we live and love, but they cannot change who we are—unless we let them. As Viktor Frankl said:

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

And, as Joseph Campbell reminds us:

“We’re not on our journey to save the world but to save ourselves. And in doing that, we save the world.”

Finding Clarity Through the Fog

Through all the pain, uncertainty, and destruction, I see it clearly now—the light is always there, even when the fog surrounds us.

When we can’t see what’s ahead, we must proceed with caution, mindfulness, and trust. We must ground ourselves in the present and know that each step we take through the fog will eventually lead us out of it.

The lesson is clear: Let go of fear. Stay present. Trust the journey. The light is always guiding you forward.

You are not alone. The fog will lift. And the light is always guiding you forward.
